This monumental 9-metre bronze figure of Nelson Mandela was created by André Prinsloo and a collaborating sculptor. Unveiled at the Union Buildings in Pretoria in 2013. Mandela is shown with his arms extended rather than raised, a gesture described at the inauguration as an embrace of the nation. The sculpture is one of South Africa’s most prominent contemporary public monuments and measures approximately eight metres from fingertip to fingertip.
